Description
The Audio Panel is used to allow you to edit and/or change your audio settings. Settings that are typically changed in this panel are your Audio Device for input and output of sound. As well as your method of communication in voice servers such as Voice Activity Detection or Push To Talk.
Accessing
There are two ways to get to your audio settings:
- From the Audio menu in Voice Servers.
- From the File menu on your Friends List.
Using the dialog
- 1. Click on the Audio panel if you are not there already.
- 2. Select the Audio Device you want to input to come from.
- 3. Select the Mixer Device you want to get audio from.
- 4. Change the Mixer Volume.
- 5. Select whether you want Voice Activity Detection or Push To Talk.
- 6. Select the Audio Device you want sound to go to.
- 7. Change the Output Volume.
- At this point you have all your audio settings filled in. if you would like to test these settings you can do so in the Audio Preview by following steps 8-14
- 8. Select how you want your voice played back in Preview Audio Output.
- 9. Select the Codec you want to hear your voice through (useful so you know how your friends hear you).
- 10. Change the Voice Threshold (if you are using Voice Activity Detection).
- 11. Click Start Transmission Test.
- 12. The Transmission Status will show when you are transmitting.
- 13. This area is for informational output. It will change depending on your Preview Audio Output value.
- 14. If you notice errors in your setup return to Step 1 to reconfigure your audio.
Definitions
- Audio device: Sound Hardware Device a.k.a "Sound Card"
- Codec: Encoder/Decoder
- Mixer device: An Input or Output line on your Audio Device
- Mixer volume: The Volume in which your Audio Device will record audio
- Output volume: The Volume in which GSC will play audio
- Preview Audio Output: Option to choose how you hear yourself for the test
- Push to talk: Requiring to hold down a key to talk
- Voice Activity Detection: When your voice is sent based on how loud you are talking
- Voice Threshold: The level which is used to decide weather you are talking or not
