Game information

Issue:

When I launch Call of Duty 4 from GSC, I am not able to select any of my existing user profiles in the game.

Reason:

This currently appears to be a Vista only issue. the details are as follows.

The operating system function for spawning a process on Vista has the spawning process "inherit" the same permission as the spawning process. Since GSC is run as administrator, Call of Duty 4 is started as administrator also. Under Vista, to allow non-vista ready executables to be backward compatible, when a process would require write access to the C:\Program Files\ folder, the folder is automatically remapped to that user's Virtual Store folder. Since Call of Duty 4 is started as administrator when launched through GSC, it has access to the real C:\Program Files\ folder, instead of the Virtual Store folder (where existing Call of Duty 4 profiles may be stored).

Solution:

As a work around you can do either of the following:

   1. Copy the contents of the "Virtual Store" profiles directory into your "Program Files" profiles directory. (C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles)

If your C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME does not have a "AppData" folder then Windows is hiding it from you. In your Folder Options (Control Panel -> Folder Options) enable "Show hidden files and folders"

  2. Set your Call of Duty 4 shortcut icons to "Run as Administrator".
